Thank you for allowing me to take care of your piano.
Tuning
A standard tuning is $150 for pianos that have been well maintained. I will need about 50 to 60 minutes to tune your piano.
For pianos that haven’t been tuned in two years or more, a pitch raise is often necessary. I can do the pitch raise plus the standard tuning in one sitting for a total of $185. I will need between 1.5 to 2 hours for this service.
Additional travel fees may apply for more distant appointments.
Repair
Repair work requiring parts and labor is not included in the price of the tuning. Examples include, but are not limited to:
- replacing broken strings
- repairing stuck piano keys
- replacing broken hammers
- repairing other worn or broken parts
The cost of repair work is quoted on a case-by-case basis and requires that I see the piano in person before being able to offer an estimate.
Regulation
Inside every piano are hundreds of moving parts which, over time, go out of alignment due to the normal wear and tear of regular use. When this happens, the piano no longer functions correctly. It may feel sluggish and inconsistent and some piano keys may not work at all. Piano regulation restores the instrument to its proper working order so that it operates correctly and performs reliably.
Tuning a piano sets each string to the correct pitch. Regulating a piano, however, ensures the hammers strike the strings correctly.
Typically, a piano should be regulated every 5 to 10 years. Unfortunately, as is often the case, most pianos never receive regulation work at all after leaving the factory when new.
To perform this regulation work, I would need to take the action out of the piano and transport it to my workshop where I would have it for approximately two to three weeks. The cost is $725 and includes the piano tuning.
